I was operated on 11/13/08 for a 3 level Disc removal of the cervical spine (c4-5,5-6 & 6-7) bone was grafted from the iliac crest for replacement. In the process my Iliac/Pelvis was fractured. It was not diagnosed till 3 days post op (first day I actually put any real weight on leg)I thought my hip broke I was putting on a pair of sweatpants and droped to the floor because of the pain. After two Er Visits one in the am and one in the PM it was discovered that I had a fracture of the Pelvis. The pm ER did a second XRay and it was clear as day (obviously the first (am) ER did not even look at my XRRAY because the next day I obtained it and sure enough clear as day there was a fracture) I notified the surgeon who told me it was not a fracture but a "free floating bone" Needless to say I've not returned to that Surgeon. I made an appointment with a Orthopedic Dr. and He followed it for 10-12 weeks tangling/hanging off so to speak in hopes that it would heal. We finally agreed the bone would have to come out and muscles reattached. The 1/21/09 surgery went fine, however I still seem to have pain in two areas 1.front left side of leg and lower left area of back near the surgical site) Also, I have a somewhat deformed look now to my pelvis, there is a bone that seems to stick out exspecially when I lay down. My husband jokes I look like I have a chicken wing on my side its very weird. Just wanted to know what you guys thought about a case like this. Is there anything I could do with the bone like maybe get it shaved down because it actually hurts when it rubs against any pants that hit on that area?????

After a bone graft from the ilium for a C5/C6 fusion & plating, I had a fracture 4 days later at the harvest site. The fracture did not unite and 2 and half years later, remains a problem.
